Welcome to our new CEO, Pete Brophy. Here, he explains why he’s decided to dedicate his working life to running the charity.
Hello Omega, and what a difference a year makes!
Having worked in Policing across West Mercia and the Midlands for 30 years, perhaps I could’ve been forgiven if I’d retired quietly into the sunset but, in all honesty, that’s not in my nature. After a very short period working with the wonderful staff at Shrewsbury Town FC, I knew when I saw the opportunity to work with Omega that I had to explore it.
I have so far met all of the London House-based staff, trustees and a number of other people based around the UK, and I have been overwhelmingly impressed by the commitment and dedication by everyone to the Omega cause. I am already beginning to experience a sense of deep personal satisfaction to be associated with you. Doing something good for society is incredibly rewarding, and being back in an organisation that does this makes me feel at home again.
I will state from the outset though, it is my intention to ensure that Omega becomes more recognised locally and nationally for the amazing work that has preceded me, and for what we will do going forward. I may need to reassess our short and mid-term strategic aims – but one step at a time. We’ve already started by making some slight alterations to our website, which should now be a little more interactive and engagement-driven, whether for recruiting volunteers, reaching those that need support, or increasing donations. I want the charity to grow to be able to help even more people, to diversify if needed, or at least be alive to the opportunities to do so. To grow, we need more exposure to generate the generous financial support and donations, however small or large, from individuals or from commercial benefactors.
We will look to improve upon our communications output, via our website, newsletters and, just as importantly, our social media pages. Connectivity is vital.
Rest assured, I know that everyone connected with Omega is vital to our successful future. You will all have ideas or thoughts about what we can do to improve and progress – I want to hear all of them, even if you think them outlandish.
So that just leaves me with a chance to say Thank You.
Thanks to all of you for welcoming me to Omega. I’m really looking forward to working with the team but, for now, please let me wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Here’s to the next 12 months and all of the challenges 2024 will bring.
